  32. first, i've included detective mark winn's (fraud unit, palo alto police 
  33. department) phone number for any of you requiring it.   and i ask that other 
  34. victims reply to my request for your dealings with dirk, and your 
  35. phone/address.  that said....

  37. i sold dirk a retina zII card.  having spoken with him on the phone, we agreed 
  38. on a cod price ($335).  i shipped the retina via ups--but made the mistake of 
  39. not expicitly writing "cash or cashier's check only" in the provided space on 
  40. the cod tag.  (i only checked the "cash only" box.)  ups accepted a personal 
  41. check which, like all good rubber, bounced.

  43. i called dirk, and he was very apologetic--claiming that someone got a hold of 
  44. some of his checks and was using them without his consent, so he had to close 
  45. the account.  he promised to send a cashier's check to me and that i should 
  46. receive it by the following friday.  (this was in november '94.)  he told me 
  47. to call him and let him know when the payment arrived--it never did.  i called 
  48. dirk's home and was told he was out, so i asked that he return my call.  he 
  49. didn't.  i tried calling again--the phone was disconnected.  i tried a few 
  50. more times in the following weeks--the line was finally back in service.  i 
  51. could tell he was at home by the way the girl who answered told me that 
  52. he was out.  by the end of january (yes i'm patient), i got very tired of it 
  53. and was going to be very adament that he pay me, or else.....well, the phone 
  54. was again disconnected.  i called his bank to file a complaint and get his new 
  55. number.  (they would not give out such information, but the receptionist gave 
  56. me the number to the palo alto police department.)

  58. in febuary '95, i contacted detective mark winn of the fraud unit 
  59. (415-329-2559) who attempted to "pester" dirk and his family.  he figured that 
  60. if the police would call often enough, dirk's family would get tired of being 
  61. called by the police and would convince dirk to make good on his debts.  it 
  62. didn't work.

  64. during this time i also was trying to get ups to help, but there was only so 
  65. much they could do.  they would not let the driver, who delivered the package 
  66. and accepted the personal check, get involved in the case as det. winn had 
  67. requested.

  69. yes, by may i had gotten busy with other things and i "forgot" about it.  but 
  70. then i recently saw dirk's name come up again on the net.  he had struck 
  71. again, and now i'm pissed that i let this little rat do it to someone else.  
  72. if i had just kept the pressure up......

  74. but now, i'm collecting names and accounts of the various victims and 
  75. near-victims of this low-life and will make sure that he is held 
  76. accountable!

  80. oh, and this little pisser had the nerve to tell me he would contact me by 
  81. last thurday.  he didn't.  he claimed--on the net--that he would make good on 
  82. his past mistakes.  i'm sure the others have not heard from him either.
